2018 Pinehurst Invitational

This year’s 2018 Pinehurst Invitational was filled with change!  For instance… For the first time in many years we did not spend our week at the Talamore (“Beam me up Scotty”) Golf Resort. This year we made camp at the very wet Little River Resort that suffered damage due to Hurricane Florence. Here are some of the other changes… First, and foremost….

We have a new champ!  This year’s winner was Joe “Gotz” Gigliotti. Joe and Billy were locked in an exciting back and forth battle on the last day’s final round at Pinewild.  Joe was the winner in a putting duel on the 18th hole and won the cup by just two points.

BEST SHOT OF THE WEEK!

The best shot of the week has to go to Paul Slachta for his tee shot on #3 (174 yard) Par 3 on our last day at Pinewild (Magnolia).  Aces just doesn’t get any closer than this boys!

His fellow Knights reminded him… “if it’s for a point you must PUTT IT OUT” … and so yes he made the birdie 🙂

You can check out some of the other “special moments” during the week in our 2018 Photo Gallery.

One other change this year was playing some of the rounds from combo tees and gold tees on select courses.

The change was well received where played during the week which led to a majority vote, passed by the group during our awards dinner, to change the tee boxes for the event on all courses in the future from the white tees to the gold (or next closer to the hole). This should make the tournament length more enjoyable and also generate higher Stableford scoring opportunities and more scoring fun for all!
